Abuse-free Sport

At Forest City Fencing Club (FCFC), we are committed to creating an inclusive community environment free from harassment and bullying.

We adhere to the principles of abuse-free sport based according to the Canadian Safe-Sport Program (CSSP), the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) and the Coaching Association of Canada.

 

Expectations

Coach education

All of our coaches and board members are required to complete safe sport training modules through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). We also work according to the CAC's Rule of Two for the protection of our members, coaches and volunteers.

Expectations

Members

We expect all of our members to contribute to creating a community that is free from bullying and harassment. Everyone fences for different reason and these reasons are to be respected.

While fencing is a combat sport, excessive force or violence is not acceptable behaviour. All fencers should aim to develop self-awareness and adjust accordingly to their opponent's skill level.

If you see something, say something. Our board will review any issues brought to their attention.

  • Psychological maltreatment
  • Physical maltreatment
  • Neglect
  • Sexual maltreatment
  • Boundary transgressions
  • Grooming
  • Discrimination

Rule of Two

  • All conversations between coaches and athletes must be public, or
  • Conversations must take place in open, interruptible spaces
  • In-person discussions must include 2 verified coaches or volunteers
  • Personal texts and emails are discouraged
  • Parents must be available for drop-off and pick-up
